Interactive Lecture on Charlie Hebdo killings

IPCI

Attorney Yusuf Ismail, earlier this year, presented an interactive lecture on Islam and the religious teachings in defending the religion.

He spoke at length about how Muslims should understand the Quranic text in relation to current day politics and social interactions. Some of the questions he asked included: “Why do the rebele groups have support from UK, USA and Mossad? Why have they never attacked Israel?”

News networks help to perpetuate the stereotype of Islam as a violent religion. There are always reports that people are acting in the name of Islam. Ismail urged the audience to behave in a peaceful manner and not display violence. “It is time for us to move away from this siege mentality”.

He concluded the lecture by encouraging Muslim youth to start engaging with the Quran.
